Mark Hart, owner of Hart Designs, www3.telus.net/hartdesigns, is the artist behind hundreds of professional, semi-pro and amateur goalie masks, including the first NHL mask for Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers. Hart is the exclusive painter of the new, original goalie masks for the 2007 Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees.

“In painting the masks, I’ve tried to bring out the players’ talents that got them into the Hall of Fame,” he says.

Hart, based in Terrace, British Columbia, formally studied art and art design for more than 12 years, in both Canada and London, England. He utilizes this formal training to develop, design and airbrush some of the most creative masks and original masks available.

The Art:

This mask was created to celebrate the 2007 induction of Ron Francis, whose career began in 1981 with the Hartford Whalers and ended with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2004 season. A quiet superstar, he was not only a goal scorer but also one of the best passing centers and two-way players in the league.

For this mask, Hart concentrated on Francis’ achievements that brought him to the Hall of Fame – his team leadership, his numerous 20+ goal seasons and his contributions to back-to-back Stanley Cup victories with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
