The Synergy 555 shins have an incredible amount of padding where the knee sits, as well as it's removable to make it convenient to dry. In particular, these pants offered a high quality zipper, with supporting velcro strip to avoid unexpected zipper openings (which avoids a penalty in our league - for opened zippers in games), A higher mid torso pad like no others had, elastic/flexible material in crotch for easy leg movement, and most importantly - thick and long tail bone protection padding which was the best out of all nine pairs we looked at. This is realy important when I fall on my rear. In all - these were miles above all others and I'm glad the customer rep - recommmended these for us - after I told him what I was realy looking for. Bauer Vapor Shift Jr. SkatesPurchased at: The Hockey Shop Source For Sports After wearing Bauer Vapor-Shift skates for the last 5 years and needing a new (larger) pair, I thought I would first try on a pair of the "upper-end" Vapor-XXXX's to see if they were worth the extra money before I would buy anything. After trying on both (several times)I could not really notice any difference - other than the tongue on the XXXX's being a fraction thicker. Other than that, the skates are virtualy identical from the boot, holder, and blade to the insert. However, the Shift is much less costly - being the Source For Sports "house branded" version in this category. While both are higher level quality skates - I could not walk away from the Shift's - which offer fantastic value for the money and so I bought my 4th pair for this season. The Warrior Bully gloves are my first pair of Warrior gloves as well as material covered gloves. These gloves are by far the greatest gloves I have ever used. The bully gloves are much lighter and durable than the leather, allowing for a stronger grasp on the shaft, as well as a faster slide up and down. The material keeps the gloves cooler than the leather, allowing my hands to sweat less and stay comfortable. Finally, Warrior solved the problem of the palms wearing out quickly by adding another palm patch where the gloves wear out first. We went to Ice-Level Sports because of their wide selection and especially their knowledgable staff, in order to be sure to get "the right pads". The sales associate Russ had us try on 4 different brands in 2 different sizes. We narrowed things down to the Bauer Comp & One 75 which are very similar, however we chose the One 75 due to it's two piece back support which allows complete flexibility - unlike the Comp - which one piece back support tends to be less comfortable and mobile - for me. After narrowing things down to the One 75 - we had one problem which was that the Junior-Large size "just-fit" while the Senior-Small was more suited for me, except for the "wrap-around" velcro chest straps - being too long for me. Well solution was at hand, as Russ had the Velcro straps double sewn up an inch and presto a perfect fit. And I think the Mission Z12 is good for slap shots and pretty much any other hard shots. So in my opinion I think that the Mission Z12 is the stick for a defenseman, and the Fury for a forward.
